Strength Training Fundamentals: Build Muscle the Smart Way
Progressive overload, compound lifts, and recovery — the three pillars every lifter needs to understand.
Muscle is built through progressive overload — gradually increasing weight, reps, or intensity so your body has a reason to adapt. Without progression, results stall.
Prioritise compound lifts (squat, deadlift, bench, row, overhead press) — they recruit the most muscle per rep and drive the biggest strength gains. Isolation work supports weak points, but should never be the whole program.
Recovery is where growth happens. Sleep 7–9 hours, eat enough protein (0.7–1g per lb of bodyweight), and give each muscle group 48 hours before hitting it hard again.
